You might wonder what is the difference between drum brakes and disk brakes . To make that clear disc brakes are parts from the brake system in the car. The brake system in the car consist of two pads which include the rotating disk. The rotating disk could be named as a rotor .
What the rotating disk do is to connect the wheel toward shaft. When you try to push the break down to stop the car , the rotating disk will stop immediately.
The disk brakes require a special maintenance such as checking the level of the break fluid and the color of the brake fluid if it is so dark or black you need to flush the filters and replace the brake fluid. The brake fluid must be reddish in color .
Checking the brake pads thickness play a main role on the quality of the disk brakes . The less Thickness you have on the brakes pads, the more risk you might expect on your disk brakes.
To check the brake pads turn your engine off then press on the brakes . If the brakes are very soft or mushy that might be an indication that your vehicle is low on brake fluid or you need to bleed the brake. If your brakes do not stop the vehicle that might be an indication for worn pads or rotor's problem.
The design of disk brakes varies such as a traditional form of solid steel or a modern form that allow heat to escape accumulated additional hole which reduce the possibility of distortion.
Most of the cars\designed in the last forty years have disc brakes at the front two wheels and two disc drums on the rear wheels . Disk brakes are superior for many reasons such as distributing the heat better than disc drums . They also work better in wet weather because of centrifugal force which tend to fling water off the brake disc and keep it dry . Disc drums might keep some remaining water inside where the brake shoes
touch the drums.
